James Franco is directing and (surprise) starring in a film adaptation of As I Lay Dying. I am emphatically not okay with this for two reasons.

1. James Franco (especially) cannot do Faulkner justice.

2. No one can do Faulkner justice.

Me and my friend got Chinese food at the pub tonight whilst discussing our Scotland trip for the last week of May. When last call came around 11, two of the ten-year-old-looking bartenders came by to clean up our table.

First 10-year-old: We’re not allowed to eat on shift, and all night we’ve been looking over at your table and going ‘They’ve got Chinese. Bitches.’

Second 10-year-old: (picking up a three-quarters-empty container of noodles and deliberately not throwing it away) Note that I’m not throwing this away because I’m bringing it to the kitchen.

Yesterday was probably the best day of my life. A connection from last summer brought me to the most wonderful elderly lady I’ve ever met. We drove across the Norfolk countryside, stopping at churches to see the stained glass windows her husband did, and the sculptures that she has done for years. She was altogether prolific and humble, and if I’m half the woman she is at 76, I’ll be happy. She did the lettering on all of her husband’s windows. These are a few of my favorite pictures.
